Ghost Rider 1967

This was the first Ghost Rider. A western where the hero only pretended to be a ghost. This was the letterhead to the letter page of his short lived series. Above it that year they used their characters to promote the Merry Marvel Marching Society membership kits.

Target Comics 1944

In an earlier post I told how Target comics had the first letters page in comic book history. Well recently I saw a 1944 copy of one of the books from that series by Novelty Press. As you can see it was sub-titled the editors page. Later it would be known more as the letters page or the fans page. Look at the signatures of the six letters on this page. Two of them, one third of the fans on this page, seem to be from female fans. Now it is rare to find a female fan. I know they are out there but they are even harder to find now. But read the letters on this page and enjoy this rare look at one of the first letters page.

Ragman 1976

Finally here is the official title for the letters page of Ragman. However, the book only lasted 5 issues. It was a victim of the infamous DC Implosion. It wasn't the end of Ragman. The character has been kept alive with mini-series and team-ups over the years.

Ragman 1976

In 1976 DC Comics was exploding with new ideas and books. One of those was called Ragman. The above text page is what would eventually become that books letters page.

Come back tomorrow to see another title for the text page before it became an official letters page.

Stalker 1975

From museum Benefactor Luke and his El Jacone Collection comes this letter page letterhead. He says...well let me have him tell you in his own words.
It comes from the short-lived DC sword & sorcery title Stalker! The adventures of The Man With The Stolen Soul ran for four issues in 1975, and featured the talents of Paul Levitz, Steve Ditko, and Wally Wood... that's a heck of a team, huh?
That is quite a team of talent Luke. You can see Luke's blogs at El Jacone's Comic Book Bunker and his Hawkman blog Being Carter Hall. If you too would like to become a museum benefactor just e-mail me a copy of a letter page letterhead that you don't see on this site. If I can use it I will and post a link to your site if it is a "G" rated family friendly site.

Tribute To The Letter Column

As anyone who has read my blogs should know I was a fan of the letters pages in the comic books. Not too many carey them now thanks to the internet and e-mail and blogs like this were fans and comic book pros communicate. I think that is a mistake. How many of us go to all the popular sites? Does anyone have that kind of time that it would take? I know I don't.
If you liked the letters pages then you should go to the new site Tribute to the Letter Column. It's new so there isn't much there but what is there is good. Robert talks about the letter pages and includes some social commentary. Take a look and I hope you will enjoy it.

Kobra 1976

This was the letterhead to the letters page for Kobra from DC Comics in 1976. It was published bi-monthly and issue #3 was to be the last issue as the sales figures for the series were not in yet. They must have gotten them in time and saw that it sold fairly well as 2 months later issue #4 was out. Still it got canceled with issue #7. In 2009 DC published it again under the title "Faces of Evil: Kobra."

World's Finest Comics 1981

In the early 80's DC Comics increased the size of some of their comics and added some back up stories. In doing so they nearly didn't have room for the letters page. They printed it on the inside cover where normally an advertisement would have been. Actually they had done away with all the ads in the comic books they added the features to. Here is a 1981 letters page from World's Finest Comics that shows they also didn't leave much room for the letterhead on the page. You almost need a magnifying glass to see it.
